1.1 Limited resources and knowledge.
Social media platforms seem good when we view other people’s pages and content, this is because people are using the right equipment and have much knowledge about it. It may take months or even years to have a well-managed social media presence. At TLC old age home, we are funded for basic needs only, equipment such as laptops, camera and editing software's are unavailable and even mobile data is sometimes scarce. To develop a social media presence, we had to improvise on equipment and some of the knowledge we had to learn on YouTube. It took some time but, in the end, it was done, and the results were good. The management has even sent donation letters to several local businesses to assist with electronic equipment.
1.2 Choosing the right platform and content.
Social media has many platforms, and it may be difficult to choose the right one that is good for the target audiences. Our organisation is about old people, and some of our beneficiaries do not really understand social media that well they often miss out on the content we post. We have learned to post each content that will appear on all our social media platforms. We always host events involving other stakeholders such as the community, it was a challenge to choose relevant content that will not ruin the reputation of community members and not to post content that promotes violence and abuse. The website gave us problems when it came to design and layout, we eventually managed to finish and publish it to be accessible to our audience.
1.3 Engaging with targeted audiences.
Most of our projects are happening in our facility and people's homes when we are doing outreach projects. Many people are not comfortable when filming, especially in their homes. They sometimes refuse to cooperate with us. Our target audience is not interested in technology and the law does not allow us to shoot without consent. We often give reports of our engagements as a written story, some of the people have engaged with us on social media and we were able to help them. It is important to engage with stakeholders.
1.4 Creating our own identity and authenticity.
We have realized that authenticity and self-identity go a long way when using social media platforms. It is easy to copy some organisation content to post it, but it can make affect the audience impact and affect the organisation statistics of audiences. It took time to understand the culture of the organisation through management and beneficiaries and everyone involved. We have learned to incorporate what we do physically and activities we do online and avoid posting content that promotes violence and abuse
1.5 Data protection and privacy.
Tender Loving Care works with several institutions, it is important to protect the data of these institutions. We could not just post anything without checking the important things and consulting with the organisation if the content is relevant. Sharing personal information on social media can compromise the organisation and its workers. We have learnt in the process of making our social accounts that we need to be careful and considerate of other people and the environment when posting information on social media. So far the content is good and it does not affect other people in a bad way.
